German: 1st Monday, 1:30-3:30; 3rd Monday, 7:00-9:00 (PM)
This group welcomes native and nonnative speakers to share their thoughts about topics of general interest and German and American culture. Members support each other to stay connected to their home country and to adjust and feel at home abroad. Everyone has a great opportunity to improve their knowledge of the German language
The Japanese Discussion Group
The Japanese Discussion Group is a place where Japanese speakers gather to talk about topics in Japanese. We have some long-time members, who have lived outside of Japan for years and want somewhere to practice their Japanese along with some who have just arrived in Ann Arbor and are tired of learning and speaking English :). Topics vary, some we have discussed in the past are: different election systems between US and Japan (we had this topic in 2012, when we had the election), how to overcome cold winters in Ann Arbor, outing ideas in and near Ann Arbor, gardening, secret to longevity/healthy lifestyle, and changing/evolving Japanese language. We come up with topics at our first meeting of the year. We also have a potluck twice a year: once before the holiday season and at the last meeting of the year in May.
Spanish -I: 2nd & 4th Tuesday, 1:00-3:00
We are a group of Spanish speakers, many of whom are native speakers from many different countries. However, the group has a number of members who are speakers of Spanish with varying abilities. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from late September through late May or early June. We meet at different homes, socialize while we eat whatever the hostess has prepared as well as food contributions from other members. With few exceptions there is an announced topic of conversation for the last hour of the meeting.
