In my last article, I wrote about the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. What are we going to do after it ends? Don’t worry. We’ll have another wonderful annual event – the Ann Arbor Art Fair. It’s one of the largest outdoor art fairs in the nation. Around 400,000 people visit this fantastic fair annually.
I was astounded when I first visited it. It’s really HUGE!!!! Indeed, it was far beyond my expectations. Stretching over the whole downtown area to the University of Michigan campus, the streets are transformed into an art paradise full of booths that show every kind of artwork: ceramics, glass, printmaking, digital art, jewelry, sculptures, drawing, leather, painting, wood, fiber, metal, photography…literally everything! About 1,000 artists were showcased last year.
Last summer, I went with two families from Japan and we all had a great time. We enjoyed each booth thoroughly (every piece of art was really unique and had something to offer!), and got to talk to several talented artists. While the adults happily discovered new treasures – beautiful earrings, paintings, and tiles to add to their collections – the kids enjoyed creating their own artwork at the kids’ activity zone. After that, we saw street performances, listened to music, and had a nice lunch as well (Ann Arbor always has good food, but the art fair attracts fun new food trucks to explore).
I recommend this event not only to art lovers but also to kids, families, friends, and tourists… really every one. Join us this summer!
