You may know that our members are divided into two groups: Newcomers and Neighbors.

You are a Newcomer if you just came to Ann Arbor (and this area) from another country and you have been here LESS than 3 years.

You are a Neighbor if you are from the U.S. or Canada OR if you have been here MORE than 3 years.

A few years ago, we started a new group called “Graduates.” They are Newcomers who have been here for 3 years. We “graduate” them into the Neighbors group at that time. Graduates as new Neighbors are welcome to help more in the organization, if they’d like to.

November is the month we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Around that time, we think about what we are and have been thankful for. I thought it would be appropriate to tell our Graduates, our newest Neighbors, how thankful we are that you found International Neighbors, and how thankful we are for your participation, contributions and mostly for your friendship these past 3 years! You make IN a great organization! Congratulations and thank you so much!

In the past, we have been able to meet in person and honor the Graduates at our November International Day, introducing them during the program, and giving them flowers. Unfortunately, this year, we are unable to do that. However, I just wanted to let you know that you are still remembered and appreciated!

Sunflower [In lieu of real flowers, we offer you a Sunflower photo! Have a sunny and warm thank you for your membership and participation!]

There were 219 of you who graduated this past May!

I would especially like to acknowledge some Newcomers/new Graduates who have been helping: Tuba (former board member), Veronica (Reading Group), Liyun (Singing Group), Kasia (Baby Tea Group), and Marja (Newsletter). And while I’m thanking members, I’d also like to thank some Newcomers who jumped right in and offered to help since they joined: Ananya (board member), Zaiyi (Reading Group), Agnes (Website), and Shirley (Newsletter and Reading Group).

Since, at this time, it’s difficult to contact you all quickly, please let us know how you’re doing! What groups are you in? Would you like to send us a picture of yourself in an IN group (either before or during this whole COVID-19 situation)? Let us know what you’ve been doing! Please contact reading@international-neighbors.org with your information.

Again, many thanks to our new Neighbors and active Newcomers who have helped with our organization! We hope everyone will take care and stay safe….and hopefully we can see you next year to thank you in person!
