Most of Special Interests groups are not accepting new members at the moment. Some have maintained contact with their current members and some opted to wait until health guidelines have eased and members can safely meet in person again. Only three groups are accepting new members at the moment. Marcy writes about two of them. The third group is  International Cooking, which has plans to have Zoom cooking demonstrations, recipes exchange and discussions.

Foodies Chat and Chew on International Delicacies

By Marcy.

Two wonderful groups that bring women together to enjoy good meals are accepting new Members this fall. The first – International Foodies – meets once a month on the third Thursday and, in ordinary times, schedules a visit to an ethnic grocery followed by a nice lunch in a restaurant of the same ethnicity.  In addition to these delightful outings, they have scheduled many visits to local places of interest associated with diverse ethnicities. They have gone to the Ukrainian Museum in Hamtramck, a Russian Seminary in Harper Wards, and the Holocaust Museum in Southfield among other places. For the time being, they are staying well connected on Zoom and enjoying a variety of activities on their own that they enjoy sharing with the group during their virtual meetings. Some are studying English as a Second Language while others are honing their cooking skills. Many are catching up on watching good films or reading books from their wish list. Everyone is looking forward to resuming their very enjoyable outings with the Foodies group.

The second group is Chat and Chew. That wonderful name says it all. This group meets in the evening to provide an opportunity for working women to participate, getting together on the first Tuesday of the month for dinner and nice conversation. Some of the restaurants they have visited include: Carlyle’s, Paesano’s, Amadeus, Sava’s, Seva’s, Sidetrack, and Yotsuba’s. They are eager to resume visiting restaurants but for now are staying in close contact on Zoom.

You can find more information for these groups on our website. You can also sign up for the group you have chosen through the website. If you have questions you would like to ask about any of these groups, email the Melissa at interests@international-neighbors.org
